Requested the Federal Trade Commission to bring action
against the National Commission on Egg Nutrition to make
NCEN stop advertising that there was no scientific evidence
linking cholesterol and heart disease.

Objected to Medicare and Medicaid proposals which would
have discouraged emergency admissions since they would
have negated our "early warning signs" program.

Endorsed concept of special national panel to review and
reinforce the federal commitment to biomedical research.
May 1974
Testified before the Health Appropriations Subcommittee
of the U.S. House of Representatives, recommending a $365
million budget for NHLI for fiscal year 1975.
June 1974
Issued statement on national health insurance. Any ex-
panded third-party payment system should include regular
health audits and medication for hypertension and rheumatic
fever. National health insurance should also cover patient
education, rehabilitation and home health services.
Issued statement on new health planning legislation.
Voluntary health agencies should be heavily involved in
the decision-making process of the new program and demon-
stration funds should be meaningful in scope.
Telegrammed statement on proposal to give hypertension
revenue sharing money to state health departments. AHA
stated its recognition of the need for additional funds in
this area but suggested that the most cost-effective use
of the monies should rely heavily on Heart Association
expertise in this area.
