PRESENT FUNCTIONS

Patient care: (a) inpatient, outpatient, clinic, extended
care, long term and home care; (b) acute and non-acute care
including diagnostic, therapeutical, rehabilitative and
preventive care.

Specialized care for post polio, communicable diseases,
mental health, emergency and trauma, chest, rehabilitation,
tuberculosis, geriatric, alcoholic, extended care, chronic
long term and similar specialized services.

Medical school training programs for medical students,
terns and resident physicians, and direct training of
nurses and allied paramedical personnel.
4.
Research programs related to and supporting patient care
services .
5 .
Non-hospital services: e.g., the Outside Medical Relief
Program, the Home Health Care Program, the special East
Los Angeles Childrens Clinic and the special Childrens
Neurology and Teaching Programs.
6.
Major new programs such as cardiac surgery, Renal Dialysis,
kidney transplants, etc.
7 .
Contract programs for inpatient hospital and emergency hos-
pital care and ambulance services.
8 .
Rehabilitation services to the chronically disabled indigent
male with special emphasis on chronic alcoholism problems.
9 .
Ancillary services: professional medical social services;
collections of revenue owed to the County; the Crippled
Childrens Services program for Los Angeles County.
PROSPECTS FOR THE FUTURE
1 .
Services not provided for by the private sector: e.g.,
alcoholism services, services for narcotics, psychiatric
hospital services, communicable disease services, emergency
and trauma services.
2 .
Major new types of programs such as the Heart, Cancer and
Stroke Program,
other regional medical care programs,
etc.
3 .
Education and training for the development of present and
future health manpower for the public and private health
sectors .
