Equipment for transportation and for food serving and preparation will
be granted in order to make supplementary feeding available to children
not previously served and to improve existing programs, where there is
the clear expectation that local input will be augmented and the program
will continue unaided, and where an effective impact can be made.
Recipients will be either host government or voluntary agency as advised
by the USAID. Following is a breakdown of equipment estimates for FY 1968
(at a cost of $1.00 per additional child) :

The above project is proposed in response to the Presidential initiative
for increased attention to child feeding. There is a need for flexibility
in choice of country programs and for quick response for impact purposes.
To facilitate this and to permit the most efficient procurement of equipment,
funds should be available centrally as in the case of the successful prece-
dent followed in the Operation Ninos program in 1962-64.
